Empower a Vulnerable Orphan for Dignified Futures
Each day, millions of children across the world face incredible hardship. We believe that every child deserves a positive start in life and the hope for a bright future. That’s why we are supporting orphaned children affected by the war in Syria and aim to offer them a chance for a better future.

In Islam, orphans are children who are left without protection because their fathers have passed away. Many families of orphans have no source of income and many orphans are left without guardians to take care of them. That’s exactly why orphans need critical care and extra support and that’s where Hand in Hand for Aid and Development comes in.
“The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “I and the person who looks after an orphan and provides for him, will be in Paradise like this,” putting his index and middle fingers together.” (Bukhari)
At Al-Amal Centre, we support 80 families consisting of widows, orphans and people with disabilities; the most vulnerable groups in Northwest Syria. The centre is unique as it doesnt just provide orphans with a safe and warm home, but it also gives them hope for a better future through services including a primary school and a secondary nursing school, both in line with the standards provided by the Turkish education authorities. Additionally, the centre has a masjid that provides Islamic lessons and a playground to allow children many learning opportunities through different types of play. Outdoor play allows physical, social, emotional, imaginative and cognitive development.

Find out more about some of the ways your donations can help save and transform the lives of an orphan through Marias story:
Maria is a young Syrian girl who grew up amid the ongoing war. In 2013, Maria was just 9 years old when she fled the city Homs with her mother and sister because of the violence and constant bombing. In the same year, she also lost her father, the family breadwinner and provider.
Maria says: “During my life, I have seen nothing but war, and I do not remember anything from these years except the utter pain and the bitterness of the disappearance of my father. Every time we settled down, the bombing began again, and wed have to run away.
To this day, Maria’s family doesn’t know whether her arrested father is dead or alive. Her biggest fantasy is that her father turns out to be alive and returns home safely.
After his disappearance, Maria, her mother and sister endured many hardships and constant displacement, until they were able to move to the Al-Amal Centre.
Maria: “When I moved into this community, I felt at home, I felt safe. No one can access this place, there are no bombs. Before moving here, I had no friends. Now I have many friends, and I don’t have to walk far to get to school. The school is in the same Centre. We also have clean water, electricity, and a mosque. We have everything.”
